Since 2005, Brownstone Poets has been inspiring poetry in Brooklyn. We strive to be a unique and diverse community, welcoming various literary styles and forms. Our reading series is expanding via Zoom, reaching out to new voices  across the U.S. and the world.  

We would like to thank this year’s 43 reader-contributors, as well as our loyal attendees. Without their love and commitment, our reading series and this anthology would not have been possible.

We’re honored to have the Himalayan poet Yuyutsu Sharma as our poet-in- residence and Yuko Otomo as this year’s guest poet.

This collection of poetry, infused with Brooklyn imagery, is our contribution to the vibrant spirit found in the Borough of Kings.

We are happy to announce the nomination of 6 poets from the Brownstone Poets 2021 Anthology for a Pushcart Prize. Winners will be announced next year and published in the next edition of the Pushcart Prize anthology, edited by Bill Henderson with the Pushcart Prize Editors.

Poet/collagist Steve Dalachinsky was born in Brooklyn after the last big war and has survived lots of little wars. His book The Final Nite (Ugly Duckling Presse) won the PEN Oakland National Book Award. His recent books are Fools Gold (2014 feral press), a superintendent’s eyes(unbearable/autonomedia) and flying home, a collaboration with German visual artist Sig Bang Schmidt (Paris Lit Up Press 2015). His latest CDs are The Fallout of Dreams with Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach (Roguart 2014) and ec(H)o-system with the French art-rock group, the Snobs(Bambalam 2015). He has received both the Kafka and Acker Awards and is a 2014 recipient of a Chevalier D’ le Ordre des Artes et Lettres. His poem “Particle Fever” was nominated for a 2015 Pushcart Prize. Forthcoming from Overpass Press, The Invisible Ray with artwork by Shalom Neuman.

 

Mike Jurkovic’s poems and music criticism have appeared/are forthcoming globally but have generated no reportable income. First full collection, smitten by harpies (Lion Autumn Press, 2016). Second chapbook, Eve’s Venom (Post Traumatic Press, 2014) Purgatory Road (Pudding House Press, 2010) Anthologies include: WaterWrites and Riverine (Codhill Press, 2009, 2007), Will Work For Peace (Zeropanik, 1999). VP, Calling All Poets in Beacon, NY. Producer of CAPSCASTS, recordings from Calling All Poets, available at  www.callingallpoets.net.  Music features, interviews and CD reviews appear in Elmore Magazine and the Van Wyck Gazette.   www.mikejurkovic.com. Yuko Otomo: Japanese origin. A bilingual (Japanese & English) poet & a visual artist. She also writes haiku, art criticism & essays. She has read in The Poetry Project @ St. Mark’s, Tribes, Bowery Poetry Club, ABC No Rio, La Mama, The Living Theatre, PS1, MoMA, The Queens Museum, etc & in Japan, France & Germany. Her publication includes Garden: Selected Haiku (Beehive Press), A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Museum (Propaganda Press), PINK (Sisyphus Press), Small Poems(Ugly Duckling Presse), The Hand of The Poet (UDP), STUDY & Other Poems on Art (UDP) &Elements (the Feral Press). She exhibited her artwork at Court House Gallery @ Anthology Film Archives, Tribes Gallery & Vision Festival, etc. She regularly writes for a collective critical writing forum www.Arteidolia.com.
