Robert Anthony Gibbons has been nominated for a Pushcart for his poem, “ a self-taught genius” by great weather for MEDIA, Robert has been published in hundreds of literary magazines and in several notable anthologies. Recent publication credits include Killens Review, Tribes, Involuntary Magazine, Peregrine, Expound, Promethean, Turtle Island Quarterly, Killer Whale, and Suisun Valley Review, Voices of Lefferts and the Bronx Memoir Project: Vol. 2 published by the Bronx Council of the Arts, Inner Child Press. Robert’s first collection, Close to the Tree published by Three Rooms Press, 2012, and his chapbook, Flight, published by Poets Wear Prada in 2019. His latest is a collaboration between Brooklyn-based artist Amy Williams, titled, Some Little Words (2022). It is a collection of erasure and ekphrastic poems in tribute to Zora Neale Hurston.

Felicia Sherelle is an author, poet, workshop leader, and writing and publishing consultant. She is founder of Felicia IN Print, providing services like editing, ghostwriting, and blogging. She is the Communications Officer for Arts Reforming Communities, a not for profit dedicated to transforming neighborhoods through the arts. She is the Vice President of Word Seed Inc., a literary arts organization dedicated to fusing all things community and all things WORDs, through youth programs, poetry workshops and features, and its annual production of the Paterson Poetry Festival. Felicia is a performance poet, featuring high energy and diverse topic poetry through Passaic County Community College’s TAPP program. She utilizes her background in child advocacy for interactive youth poetry workshops, as well as school culture and climate workshops for students, and professional development for staff.

Felicia Cade, international poet, author, and activist, was born and raised in Long Beach, Ca. Felicia has been named one of LA County’s most prominent poets and grown a city-wide reputation as “The voice of the movement.” She recently moved to New York after touring in England and has quickly become a hometown favorite. Felicia has a powerful stage presence, and her words are both captivating and thought-provoking.

Come celebrate the release of this beautiful anthology honoring a Hollywood icon at the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division,

June 24 @ 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

I will be bringing copies of my new novel “Angel Fire” and “Meowku” to the reading.

LGBTQ+ contributors will read their poems on Marilyn Monroe, as well as additional selections from their work.

Featuring editors Susana H. Case & Margo Taft Stever, & contributors Joel Allegretti, Patricia Carragon, Alexander Cavaluzzo, Robert Anthony Gibbons, Matthew Hittinger, Lynn Mcgee, & Bruce E. Whitacre

This event will take place in person at the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division, on the second floor (room 210) of The LGBT Community Center, 208 W. 13th St., NYC, 10011.

Registration is not required. Seating is first come, first served.

ROBERT ANTHONY GIBBONS, a native Floridian, came to New York City in 2007 in search of his muse Langston Hughes and found a vibrant contemporary poetry community. His first book, Close to the Tree, was published by the New York-based Three Rooms Press. He is a Cave Canem Fellow (2019–2021) and has received residencies from the Norman Mailer Foundation and the DISQUIET International Literary Program. In 2018, he completed his MFA at City College.

MATTHEW HITTINGER is the author of The Masque of Marilyn (GOSS183), The Erotic Postulate and Skin Shift, both from Sibling Rivalry Press, and the chapbooks Platos de Sal (Seven Kitchens Press), Narcissus Resists (GOSS183), and Pear Slip (Spire Press). He received his MFA from the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program, where he won a Hopwood Award. His work has appeared in many journals and anthologies, has been adapted into art songs, and in 2012 Poets & Writers Magazine named him a Debut Poet on their eighth annual list. Bios:

Noel A. Figueroa

Noel A. Figueroa is a poet, author, blogger, workshop facilitator, and event host from Brooklyn, NY who has been reading and writing poetry for over 10 years. He self-published his first book of Poems, One Man’s Journey, back in 2007 and has been actively blogging since 2012 through his site, “The Anointed Pen Scrolls” on WordPress.com. In 2018, he began a workshop called “Poets With Purpose” and in  2021, he launched “The P.W.P. Sessions”, a Podcast that interviews new or established Poets, and gives them space to perform along with an audience Q & A session.

Robert Anthony Gibbons

Ameerah Shabazz has a talent for telling stories through poetry and visual arts. She is a teacher, writer/author/illustrator, poet, and photographer. She is the founder/facilitator of When Women Speak and When People Speak poetry platforms. She is the author and illustrator of Breathing Through Concrete, and is featured in: Every Kinda Lady and Her Sister Pages and Philadelphia Says: Black Lives Matter poetry anthologies.
