Cancellation of Brownstone Poets for Saturday, April 25: Because of the social distancing going on and Park Plaza Restaurant being closed for gatherings, I can’t promise that this reading will happen on April 25. Even if the restaurant opens for regular business, I’m not sure if a gathering of more than 10 people would be safe.
I am concerned for your health, as well as for our friends, family, and the people around us. I don’t want anyone to get sick from a poetry reading.
I hope you are well during this difficult time. Keep writing, do some reading, etc., and try to find peace of mind. We will get over this, hopefully before June.

Michael Broder is the author of Drug and Disease Free (Indolent Books, 2016) and This Life Now (A Midsummer Night’s Press, 2014), a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry. His poems have appeared in numerous publications and anthologies. Michael is founding publisher of Indolent Books, a small nonprofit press amplifying marginalized voices. He holds a BA from Columbia University, an MFA from NYU, and a PhD in Classics from The CUNY Graduate Center. Michael lives in Brooklyn with his husband, the poet Jason Schneiderman, and a backyard colony of feral cats.
Susana H. Case is the author of seven books of poetry. Dead Shark on the N Train is due out in 2020 from Broadstone Books. Drugstore Blue (Five Oaks Press) won an IPPY Award in 2019. She is also the author of five chapbooks, two of which won poetry prizes, and most recently, Body Falling, Sunday Morning, from Milk and Cake Press. Her first collection, The Scottish Café, from Slapering Hol Press, was re-released in a dual-language English-Polish version by Opole University Press. Her work has appeared in Calyx, The Cortland Review, Portland Review, Potomac Review, Rattle, RHINO and many other journals. Case is a Professor and Program Coordinator at the New York Institute of Technology in New York City.
Amy Holman is the author of five small press published poetry books, including Wrens Fly Through This Opened Window, reviewed as “part freak show, part searing insight”, and the 2004 Dream Horse Press chapbook winner, Wait for Me, I’m Gone, blurbed as “revelatory and grave, and light as a cloud.” She has poems Blueline, The Chiron Review, concis, Gargoyle, Milk Letter, The Westchester Review, and great weather for MEDIA’s 2019 anthology. She works freelance as a literary consultant from her home nearby the Superfunded Gowanus, and teaches poetry in view of the Hudson River. Lately, she is also a watercolorist.
Sarah Sarai is the author of That Strapless Bra in Heaven (Kelsay Books), Geographies of Soul and Taffeta (Indolent Books), and The Future Is Happy (BlazeVOX). Her poems are in Barrow Street, Boston Review, Prelude, and many other journals; and have received three Pushcart nominations and one Best-of-the-Net nomination.
Gerd Stern is a poet and multimedia artist with experience in both film and video. He has published several books of poetry including First Poems and Others (1952), Afterimage (1965), a serigraphed selection with drawings by David Weinrib, Conch Tales (1984), and a chap book Fragmeants (2002). His fourth book of poems, WhenThen, was published summer of 2018 by Ohio’s Dos Madres Press An oral history of Stern, USCO and Intermedia Foundation was published by the University of California (ROHO) Berkeley in 2002 and is available online and in hard cover.

His poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in numerous journals including Atticus Review, Gargoyle, One, Rattle and Valparaiso Poetry Review. His poetry has also been featured on Verse Daily and The Writer’s Almanac.
Barry Wallenstein is the author of eight collections of poetry, the most recent being At the Surprise Hoteland Other Poems (2016) and Drastic Dislocations: New and Selected Poems (2012). His poetry has appeared in over 100 journals, including Ploughshares, The Nation, Centennial Review, and American Poetry Review. A special interest is his presentation of poetry readings in collaboration with jazz. He has made eight recordings of his poetry with jazz, the most recent being titled Lisbon Sunset, (2016). Barry is Emeritus Professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the City University of New York and an editor of the journal, American Book Review.

Julie Bentsen is a poet and surrealist illustrator from the forgotten realms of Staten Island, which she represented in the 2016 and 2018 National Poetry Slam competition. A student of the Unconscious, her poetry and sketches often stem from dreams and nightmares. As a visual artist she enjoys creating live pen and ink sketches to live poetry, and has done so at events with 3Po3try NYC, Deep Tanks Studios, Post:blank magazine, NYSAI magazine, and Lumen.
Maria Chisolm worked with the late Adolph Caesar with her poetry and actor/play write, Paul Benjamin who both were a big inspiration to her and for her. She has read twice at The Ensemble Theater in New York. She participated in the Los Vegas 20th Anniversary and Symposium Poetry Contest for The International Library of Poetry. She won a poetry contest at the Queens Borough Public Library and has read some of her work on Hugh Hamilton’s Talk Back Radio Show. She has also read at The Drama Book Shop twice in Potpourri, a show directed by Melissa Maxwell. Maria is in several Anthology Books and was in Essence Magazine. Maria currently has a poetry book out called Sudan’s Angels which is available on Amazon, e-book, or from AuthorHouse, and a new book out called Burnt Orange.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Freida Jones is a writer of poems, novels, and plays. She is the author of Music Masquerades as Honey in My Hands, a collection of poems centered around jazz. While at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, her play, Lucky Strikes Legacy was produced. More recently, in 2016, Freida performed a dramatic reading of In the Tradition (Amiri Baraka), a tribute to writer at the theater in Gallatin, NYU. She was the producer of a live dramatic performance of Music Masquerades in Harlem in 2017. Participation in workshops: Cave Canem, Women Writers in Bloom, and John Maney’s Finding Your Inner Wisdom keeps her creativity refreshed.
Prince A. McNally is a Brooklyn born poet, writer, philosopher, activist, and spoken-word artist. Prince is a rising voice on the NYC poetry scene, whose poetry focuses primarily on the human condition and social injustice. His work has appeared in The Dissident Voice, TUCK Magazine, GLO-MAG (India), The World Poets Anthology, The International Beat Poets, and anthologies, Beatatude and We Are Beat to name a few. His first collection of poetry is scheduled for an early 2020 release.

Roxanne Hoffman runs the literary press Poets Wear Prada with Jack Cooper. Her words can be found in cyberspace (The IndieFeed Performance Poetry Channel Archive, Pedestal Magzine, New Verse News); set to music (David Morneau’s Love Songs); on the silver screen (2005 indie flick Love and the Vampire); and in print (The Bandana Republic: A Literary Anthology by Gang Members and Their Affiliates; Soft Skull Press; It All Changed in an Instant: More Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous & Obscure, Harper Perennial). Her elegiac poem “In Loving Memory,” illustrated by Edward Odwitt, was released as a chapbook in 2011. Their second collaboration, The Little Entomologist, was published in 2018.

She is the author of Invisible Veils, a collection of poems which gives insight into what it’s like to live with anxiety, depression and survive the trauma of being sexually assaulted. Her next book will be her memoir, Disorderly Life, which is about how she spent more than a decade living with undiagnosed PTSD, but started to heal after finding the help she needed. Annie Christain is an associate professor of composition and ESOL at SUNY Cobleskill and a former artist resident of the Shanghai Swatch Art Peace Hotel and the Arctic Circle Art and Science Expedition. Her poems have appeared in Seneca Review, Oxford Poetry, The Chariton Review, and The Lifted Brow, among others. Adam Holoubek is a New York City based poet and filmmaker originally from Bratislava, Slovakia. He has spent his life travelling between Europe and North America and is inspired by different cultures found on both continents. His written body of work consists of poetry and prose concerning themes of identity, travel, urban life, and the subconscious. She received the grand prize of the Hart Crane Memorial Poetry Contest, the Greg Grummer Poetry Award, the Oakland School of the Arts Enizagam Poetry Award, and the Neil Shepard Prize in Poetry. Adam Holoubek is a New York City based poet and filmmaker originally from Bratislava, Slovakia. He has spent his life travelling between Europe and North America and is inspired by different cultures found on both continents. His written body of work consists of poetry and prose concerning themes of identity, travel, urban life, and the subconscious.
