The Brownstone Poets is proud to have its annual anthology event at BookCourt on Sunday, June 24 at 7 p.m. Rain or shine, this is a celebration for sixty-one diverse poets (featured poets from 2011 or poets who had frequently attended the Brownstone Poets reading series during 2011, plus a guest poet). All scheduled anthology contributors are reading from the anthology. Admission is free. This reading will not include an Open Mic.

Sadly, two contributors have recently passed away:

Brant Lyon – May 12

Iris Berman – June 1

Their poems in the Brownstone Poets 2012 Anthology will be heard and cherished. Their poetry was a vital part of the Brownstone Poets community. We will not forget our friends. Their poetry will live on.

Brant Lyon’s “FOREVER DADA,” will be read by Patricia Carragon

Iris Berman’s “RUNNING SCARED,” will be read by Cynthia Toronto

The Brownstone Poets 2012 Anthology will sell for $8 at BookCourt. All anthology contributors will get their complimentary copy at the reading if they haven’t already received one.

George Wallace, the Brownstone Poets’ first Guest Poet, is coming to read at BookCourt:

BookCourt is a charming independent bookstore dedicated to serving the Cobble Hill community and surrounding Brooklyn areas with friendly service that’s both kid and adult-friendly. This bookstore provides a wide selection of books to attract any bibliophile, as well as the Barnes and Noble aficionados. Books from local authors are welcomed at BookCourt and find homes on its shelves.

The Brownstone Poets, a Brooklyn-based literary series, is generally held twice a month. It’s an Open-Mic with usually two featured readers. Patricia Carragon, the host and curator, is the editor-in-chief and publisher of the annual anthology. Her assistant editors are Cindy Hochman, Brenda J. Gannam, and Karen Neuberg. Ms. Carragon began this reading series back in 2005 with Evie Ivy, who was her co-hostess.

Sad News from the Poetry Community

Two
poet friends and vital contributors to the Brownstone Poets Anthologies are no
longer with us:

Brant Lyon on May 12 (my birthday).  He died suddenly that morning.
Iris Berman on June 1.  She has battled lung cancer for several years.
I am still in shock and disbelief that both Brant and Iris have passed
away.  The poetry community will not be the same, although their poetry
will live on.  Their poems in the Brownstone Poets 2012 Anthology will be
honored at the Annual Brownstone Poets Anthology Reading at BookCourt on
Sunday, June 24 at 7 p.m.
Bookcourt163 Court StreetCobble Hill, Brooklyn 11201
Right now, I only have memorial information for Brant.

I will keep you posted on the upcoming Hydrogen Jukebox Show on Thursday, June 28.

Regarding
Iris Berman, as soon as I hear
about the memorial arrangements from Cynthia Toronto, I will let you know.

From Three Rooms Press:
BRANT LYON MEMORIAL
Bowery Poetry ClubSaturday, June 9, 3-5:30 p.m. Our heart is heavy with the loss of
Brant Lyon,
who passed away suddenly on May 12. Brant was a vital, caring, creative, and
enthusiastic poet,
musician, producer and publisher. He was co-founder of the
New York independent press great weather for MEDIA; author of the book
 “You
Are White Inside,” a full
length collection of his poetry; and
producer
of the popular series Hydrogen Jukebox, at which poets read their work to live
improvised music. He recently recorded and produced the cd “Brain
Ampin,”
which included tracks by Hydrogen Jukebox regulars. His passing has left a
great hole in the lives of friends worldwide. To celebrate his life, a memorial for Brant Lyon
will be held at Bowery Poetry
Club on Saturday, June 9, from 3-5 p.m. The event
will feature several scheduled
speakers discussing Brant’s impact on their
lives (no open reading). Please come

to pay your respects to Brant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, &

Transgender Center (http://www.gaycenter.org/support)
