SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR THE 2012 ANTHOLOGY ARE NOW CLOSED!!!

A labor of love now being brought together with the help of my team of assistant editors, Cindy Hochman, Brenda J. Gannam, and Karen Neuberg.  Kudos to all three!  Without their help and guidance, this anthology would not have been possible.

Bios:

Amy Leigh Cutler is a New York City based poet. Amy’s “American Woman” tour took her from New York to California, where she performed in National Parks, bars, cafes, and bookstores all over the United States. She has also toured internationally in London, England where she competed in the Farrago Poetry Slam and in Dublin, Ireland where she was featured at The Kilmainham Arts Club. “Orange Juice and Rooftops” is her first published book of poetry and prose, and American Woman is her chapbook of poetry. Amy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in P.P.E. from The King’s College. She competes in performance poetry slams and is available for readings and lectures. Her background in spoken word and performance pieces comes largely from her work with Shakespeare and Company in Lenox. MA. Amy is also a photojournalist for The Basics online magazine. Ronnie Norpel is a performance poet, actor, photographer and jock with a deep passion for the Phillies, where she spent seven seasons as a ballgirl and fan accommodation manager. In New York, “Ronnie G” was the muse and collaborator of Warhol Factory superstar Gerard Malanga, whose photo of Ronnie, “Marble of Light,” was included for the exhibition and catalogue, Artists of the Warhol Circle Then & Now. She studied acting in Hollywood and worked at the Zero One Gallery. Today, Ronnie reads monthly in NYC with the Upper Left Side Writers and Poets. Other readings include the Lower East Side Festival, the SynonymUS collective at Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Wild Angels at St. John the Divine.

Here are two excerpts from the review:

“Make it new” Ezra Pound proclaimed nearly a century ago, and by implication, make it yours.  He was referring to the tradition which is and has been continually reinvented and reshaped over time, as poets find inspiration in what’s old.  This is exactly what Patricia Carragon has superbly done in this beautifully produced collection, Urban Haiku and More.

She evidences an acerbic wit  when she writes the following:, “your / MetroCard / is not his E-Zpass,”Valentine’s Day / Cupid can’t shoot straight / no wonder I’m still single” and “dry-roasted brains / teaching at universities / …academia nuts.”  She easily segues to the directly personal,  with,“Sunday morning / While people go to church / I file for unemployment;  in others  her presence is merely felt:  “a season for change / trees having a mid-life crisis / as the leave turn red” and “Chanukah candles / plastic cards max out credit / 8 days of oy.”

Publication news:

Mankh’s “Haiku du Jour” published my haiku, Prayers Cover The Earth, back on December 14 and The Year Ends on December 31.

Patricia Carragon is a New York City writer and poet. Eric ZORK Alan, a 6x National Slam Poet competitor, is probably best known for standing on chairs.  He is also known for gratuitously dropping names . . . like that he is the only poet ever to have his book [appropriately called “I am NOT a poet”] blurbed by Davy Jones, Dobie Gray & Wild Cherry.   Zork has featured at the hottest poetry venues in America including Chicago’s legendary Green Mill where slam started.  He has toured across America visiting High Schools and colleges in his mission  make more poets.  He performs at and hosts ZorkSlams [student based events] at Barnes & Noble Bookstores Nationwide. He hosts Westchester County, NY’s largest poetry slam.
