The Brownstone Poets 2011 Anthology reading at BookCourt, Mon 9/12 at 7 p.m.

The Brownstone Poets is proud to have its annual anthology event at BookCourt on Monday, September 12 at 7 p.m. Rain or shine, this is a celebration for sixty-four diverse poets (featured poets from 2010 or poets who had frequently attended the Brownstone Poets reading series during 2010). All anthology contributors are reading for approximately three minutes each. There is a limited Open-Mic and admission is free.

The Brownstone Poets 2011 Anthology sells for $8 at BookCourt. All contributors to this anthology will get their complimentary copy at the reading if they haven’t already received one.

BookCourt is a charming independent bookstore dedicated to serving the Cobble Hill community and surrounding Brooklyn areas with friendly service that’s both kid and adult-friendly. This bookstore provides a wide selection of books to attract any bibliophile, as well as the Barnes and Noble aficionados. Books from local authors are welcomed at BookCourt and find homes on its shelves.

The Brownstone Poets, a Brooklyn-based literary series, is generally held twice a month: first Saturdays at Park Plaza Restaurant in Brooklyn Heights and third Tuesdays at Tillie’s of Brooklyn in Ft. Greene. It’s an Open-Mic with usually two featured readers. Patricia Carragon, the host and curator, edits its annual anthology. Her Assistant Editors are Cindy Hochman, Brenda J. Gannam, and Karen Neuberg. Ms. Carragon began this reading series back in 2005 with Evie Ivy, who was her co-hostess.

Bios:

Amy Leigh Cutler is a New York City based poet. Amy’s “American Woman” tour took her from New York to California, where she performed in National Parks, bars, cafes, and bookstores all over the United States. She has also toured internationally in London, England where she competed in the Farrago Poetry Slam and in Dublin, Ireland where she was featured at The Kilmainham Arts Club. “Orange Juice and Rooftops” is her first published book of poetry and prose, and American Woman is her chapbook of poetry. Amy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in P.P.E. from The King’s College. She competes in performance poetry slams and is available for readings and lectures. Her background in spoken word and performance pieces comes largely from her work with Shakespeare and Company in Lenox. MA. Amy is also a photojournalist for The Basics online magazine. Ronnie Norpel is a performance poet, actor, photographer and jock with a deep passion for the Phillies, where she spent seven seasons as a ballgirl and fan accommodation manager. In New York, “Ronnie G” was the muse and collaborator of Warhol Factory superstar Gerard Malanga, whose photo of Ronnie, “Marble of Light,” was included for the exhibition and catalogue, Artists of the Warhol Circle Then & Now. She studied acting in Hollywood and worked at the Zero One Gallery. Today, Ronnie reads monthly in NYC with the Upper Left Side Writers and Poets. Other readings include the Lower East Side Festival, the SynonymUS collective at Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Wild Angels at St. John the Divine.

BIOS:

Matthew Anish is a widely published poet/writer. He has published verse in Dinner with the Muse, Aim, Beyond Bree, Minas Tirith Evening Star, Jews in Space and in many other publications. He is a graduate of Brooklyn College and has studied writing and ESL at the New School University. He currently works at BMCC as an ESL instructor and writes a monthly column for Barrs Postcard News. He wishes the best to everyone here today.

Kathryn Marie Fazio, whose work has been published internationally, is a poet and fine artist. She was awarded the Ferrara Scholarship from the Performing and Creative Arts Department of the College of Staten Island CUNY, and named its Poet Laureate. Her book, A Taste of Hybrid Vigor: new poems of War, Passion, and Social Significance, contains poems and pictures of her original oil paintings and her poem “War” in the collection, won her the First Ed-Rehberg Prize for poetry, which was translated into French and televised in Haiti by the Education Committee of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

Fazio participated in a FUSE event to raise money for the aftermath of Katrina, was a poet for telethon to support public television in Kingston, NY. and has recited on the Brooklyn Waterfront in Red Hook for Creative Arts Therapy Outreach and Awareness. Fazio was coined a Bowery Woman, appearing in the only Bowery Women Anthology ever published.

Fazio credits her close relationship with Robert Dunn for encouraging her to participate in the 5th World Congress of Poets for Poetry Research and Recitation where she represented the U.S., and was awarded the Silla Gold Crown World Peace Literature Prize from Korea. Fazio edited a collection of poems Our World in an Onion and is currently a poet at a Wellness Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
